UNDP/CDRMP Project

Sindhu Utthan Kendra (SUK) Sundhupalchok implemented "Resilient Communities through Building Back Better (RCBBB)" Project in 5 VDCs (Kubinde, Irkhu, Bhotsipa, Sipapokhare and Badegaun) of Sindhupalchok district in the financial and technical assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) from October 2016 to March 2018. During this time frame, a total of 30 Technology Demonstration Houses (TDH) was built under owner driven reconstruction approach and same 30 houses became the platform for On the Job Training (OJT) to artisans. Under the OJT program, 282 local artisans were trained in 6 different building technology depending upon the suitable technology to their community. Another major activity of the project is to prepare the Reconstruction Action Plan (RAP) for 5 working VDCs which have been prepared and was validated from the stakeholders of the respective VDCs. Similarly, the work of monthly RAP update was also done regularly. It was an inclusive process with participation from the most vulnerable/ affected households in hazard, vulnerability and capacity assessment, reconstruction needs, house design and challenges in the process.

To provide a technical guidance to every household for reconstruction, Awas Niwas Sathi (ANS) was introduced in 5 working VDCs and they could reach 416 houses and construct those houses under their direct supervision. The project has also identified 50 reconstruction grantees and they were provided by building materials worth NRs 50,000. ANS involvement to provide technical assistance until the completion of disaster resilient building makes a total of 466 houses completed under their supervision. Working as the local partner for UNDP, SUK Nepal team has experienced the good professionalism and enjoyed the working environment.
